Welcome Parents
At CMHA, parents and caregivers are valued partners in creating a positive and rewarding hockey experience. Your support, respect, and involvement help build a safe and encouraging environment for every player.
What you need to know
- At least one parent or guardian must complete the Respect in Sport – Parent Program to validate a player's registration. We encourage all caregivers to complete it.
- OHF Code of Conduct must be followed by all parents, guardians, and supporters.
- Parents are expected to act in a respectful and cooperative manner with team staff, volunteers, referees, and other families.
- Help ensure positive conduct from your player, family, and spectators at all events—on and off the ice.
Supporting Your Player
Success Isn’t Just Wins
Support your child’s development, not just their scoreboard. Celebrate progress, teamwork, sportsmanship, and memorable moments—these are real wins.
Avoid “Car Coaching”
Let your child reflect on their game. Instead of critiquing, listen, be supportive, and highlight the positives. Focus on confidence and growth.
Cheer for the Team
Every player contributes. Cheering for all teammates creates a stronger, more united team atmosphere.
Be a Fan, Not a Coach
Let the coaching staff lead. Yelling instructions from the stands confuses players and creates unnecessary pressure.
Model Respect
Your child is watching. Show respect to coaches, officials, other families, and opposing teams—especially during high-stress moments.
Arrive On Time
Please arrive 30–60 minutes before game time to ensure players are prepared. Games may start up to 15 minutes early.
Use the 24-Hour Rule
Wait 24 hours before raising concerns about a game or incident. This allows space for calm, respectful communication.
Get Involved
Volunteers are essential. Help with fundraising, team support, 50/50 draws, or becoming an on-ice helper. Ask your Team Manager how you can assist.
Enjoy the Journey
Youth hockey goes by quickly. Celebrate all milestones—big and small—and make the most of this time with your child.
